I set up Llan Travel in the village of Llanfairfechan on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park in December 2017, having moved here from Buckinghamshire.
I had over 30 years’ experience in the travel industry and setting up my own travel agency was a long-held ambition. Starting a brand new travel agency from scratch, in a town I had newly located to was a challenge. I needed to quickly build a customer base and generate bookings through my new business.
Why did I choose Family Fund?
I chose Family Fund to add to my existing business, as it is fast paced and gives me good quality leads with a good conversion rate. This gives me time to get on with as many bookings and help as many families as possible.
I particularly enjoy looking after the Family Fund customers, showing empathy and specific knowledge when helping them choose a holiday.
For some customers, it’s a huge weight off their mind to know that someone like me can take all the burden of organising a holiday away. I do all the searching and take care of the finer details to ensure that their holiday meets their exact needs. It is something nice for them to look forward to.
How much do I earn?
Since opening, my business has gone from strength to strength. Family Fund is very much the bread and butter of my travel business. and it makes me good money each month. Bookings come in all shapes and sizes, with the opportunity to upsell, so I’ve had some nice value bookings as well!
I can generate my own bookings too. Much of this business is from word of mouth. Most of my best customers don’t even use the internet. They prefer to come into my shop and see me for a friendly chat over a coffee to discuss their travel requirements. I have extensive travel knowledge and don’t put anyone under pressure to book.
I even look after the odd VIP customer, but I’m not allowed to tell you who they are!
I am looking forward to a positive future for my business, Llan Travel. As I enter year 2, it’s starting to make good money, with the back-up of Family Fund leads. My plan is to continue looking after both Family Fund customers, as well as develop my existing customer base.

Family Fund is a good homeworking model for experienced travel professionals to consider if they are interested in taking the first steps into homeworking, but want the security of leads too.
